So I got back in the city yesterday & I had a day of busy admin, staring at the computer screen and hunched over the desk, my jaw now has a massive amount of tension & pain in it. We never seem to notice but as soon as stress takes over the body our jaw starts to tighten, we frown our brow and our shoulders become earrings. When you think of relaxation, you probably don’t think about your mouth. Learning how to rest and relax your facial muscles is essential to switching off the rest of the body. This is your Thursday self care reminder to relax your jaw. Not always an easy task I know. 90% of my facial clients complete the consultation wanting to focus on tension release in this area, this is a huge increase at the moment and TMJ now becoming one of my most popular treatments. During my facial and TMJ treatment I work intra-orally in the mouth, this is a deep tissue massage for the jaw & TMJ joint. It sends a signal to the whole body to relax. It feels amazing!!! Check out my self care tips below for how to relax the jaw.

Self Care Ritual
How to relax your jaw? Building habits: Try to do this whenever you remember, especially during stressful times or before bed. -Take a deep breath, and open your jaw. Looking slightly down, lengthening in the neck. -Part the teeth just slightly and let it hang there for a count of 20 seconds. -If you find yourself struggling to relax your jaw, put your tongue to the roof of your mouth and mentally say "relax jaw!" Massage: -Use your finger tips to do circles around the jaw, massaging and warming the area. Meditation: -Body scan meditations can really help to switch off the whole body. TMJ joint is the dustbin of the body - meaning any tension will get dumped in this area so chances are the tension is coming from somewhere else. Treatments: -Come & try my TMJ treatment. This works on trigger points in shoulders & neck then onto a full 60 minute deep tissue massage of the facial muscles & scalp. Its so dreamy, will make you leave feeling slightly high!
